The Castle Fountain Trail in Knüllwald-Wallenstein is a 4.8 km long, certified walking trail. The route leads from the Wallenstein Castle ruins through a forest-lined valley. Highlights include the view from the castle, the historic castle fountain, and a stream with steps. A quick stop on the A7 motorway; we were introduced to this place by @Biber 🦫😊...
The section in the southwest, which runs through the forest, has been badly damaged by harvesters, deep tracks, puddles of water, not for sneakers. Hiking boots are therefore recommended. This damage will probably never be repaired, otherwise the forest owner would have taken care of it long ago. On the section of the route approx. 0.5 km before the castle fountain, there were supposed to have been charcoal kiln plates above the path on the right; possibly not visible from the path at all. Despite paying close attention, I didn't notice anything. The castle fountain bears the inscription A u F V W 1723. The abbreviation stands for August and Friedrich von Wallenstein, two stepbrothers whose full names were August Gottfried and Friedrich Hilmar von Wallenstein and who were in the service of Hesse-Kassel. In 1723, the Landgrave enfeoffed the two with the rule over Wallenstein, an area that included the Neuenstein and Wallenstein districts. Both died unmarried and without descendants, so that after the death of the last von Wallenstein in 1743 their fiefdom reverted to the Landgraviate of Kassel. That was the end of the noble rule of the von Wallenstein family, which had lasted from 1223 to 1743, a total of 520 years. To the right of the fountain gate you can also read the letters K V. They were written by the bricklayer Karl Volmer, who repaired the collapsed castle fountain in 1929. He had done a good job, as the masonry has now lasted for 95 years. From the castle fountain, a spring, a water pipe led down to the castle at a slight incline. The pipes were made of wooden pipes, i.e. hollowed-out tree trunks that were connected to one another, as was common at the time. The course of this former water pipe can still be seen here and there in the area in a small ditch where the rotten wooden pipes had collapsed. When climbing the tower, you will notice horizontal stones that protrude slightly from the masonry next to the stairs. The wooden steps originally rested on these stones, which probably protruded further in the past than they do today. At the front of the ponds in the valley is the Strandbad No. 1 country inn, where you can get something to eat as well as drinks. There is a children's playground next to it. The Zinn family not only offers fine dining, but is also the right contact for the campsite and the castle.
Short, very nice and easy walking path, in some sections the path is very muddy.
A nice walk, easy to run, even if it's a bit muddy in the forest without frost (this morning the ground was at least partially frozen). However, there is a lot of wind break at the moment, so you have to climb a bit. It was fun😁
I would follow the path counterclockwise again ⏱️, past Strandbad No. 1🏖️ out into the Wiesental. At the end🔚 of the path is the "castle ruins Wallenstein"🏰, which invites you to linger😎. On the short hiking trail around Wallenstein Castle you will experience a picturesque meadow valley, beautiful forest paths and wonderful views! The short circular hiking trail in the Knüll Nature Park begins below Wallenstein Castle. The scenery changes in quick succession along predominantly natural paths. From the forest-lined Wiesental, past the spring pond, over soft forest floor and forest edge paths you reach the castle fountain. This once supplied Wallenstein Castle with fresh water – if you look closely, you can still make out the old control system today. It gets a bit adventurous, but on a safe path, when crossing a valley with a small babbling brook. Under a large oak tree at the edge of the path, you can enjoy the fabulous view of the landscape and across to the absolute highlight of the path: Wallenstein Castle. The romantic ruin is itself part of the path. From their courtyard and castle tower there is a wonderful view of the Knüll Mountains and the tranquil town of Wallenstein. A nice little round in sunny autumn weather.
The hike shaped like a 🦌 on the go - hopefully everyone jumped into the new year well. The weather also feels like spring - like a new beginning. 🍃🕵🏼♀️ The crunch itself is no longer a beginning for us, but the "Schlossbrunnenweg". This existed before the creation of the fable trails, so we followed the old recommended route. Therefore, the 'past', i.e. the castle ruins, came at the very end. She will soon be 800 years old, celebrating her birthday this year - just like we celebrated in 2023. 🎉🏰 Despite its brevity, the tour, which falls into the walking trail category, is a highlight to start the year. The first meters were still on asphalt, but then it went on beautiful forest paths and paths, first through the forest, then often along the lively, bubbling water. Past the spring pond to the castle fountain and finally to the castle. 🌊 Beautiful, slowing down and invigorating at the same time. Here's to a hiking-packed 2023! We've been on the lookout for lucky clover for the year. 🤩🍀
