This moderate circular hike is estimated to take approximately 4 hours to complete. This duration can vary based on your pace, stops for photos, and breaks.
The trail offers a varied landscape. You can expect comfortable tracks, sections through dense forests, and expansive valleys. Lower sections often follow tracks parallel to the Carrión River Pool, providing pleasant walks alongside the water. As you gain elevation towards the Los Navales Summit, the terrain may become rockier and more mountainous.
Given its 'moderate' difficulty rating and approximately 576 meters of elevation gain, this trail is best suited for hikers with some experience and a reasonable level of fitness. While some sections along the river might be easier, the overall route includes significant ascents, making it less ideal for absolute beginners or very young children.
Along the route, you'll experience the rugged beauty of the Cantabrian Mountains. Key highlights include the Los Navales Summit, offering spectacular mountain vistas, and the Carrión River Pool, where you can enjoy the sound of flowing water. You'll also pass through varied landscapes of forests and valleys, with potential views of emblematic peaks like Curavacas.
The best time to hike this trail is generally during the spring, summer, and early autumn months. During these periods, the weather is more stable, and the trails are typically clear of snow. Autumn also offers beautiful changing foliage. Winter hiking can be challenging due to snow and colder temperatures, especially at higher elevations.

While specific parking for this exact trailhead isn't detailed, you can typically find parking within the village of Vidrieros, often near the main access points to the Pineda Valley trails. For this moderate hike, we recommend bringing plenty of water, snacks, appropriate hiking footwear with good ankle support, and layers of clothing suitable for changing mountain weather. A map or GPS device (like the komoot app) is also advisable, along with sun protection and a first-aid kit.
After two days in the car, we needed to get our feet moving again today. We found this beautiful hike very close to where we were staying overnight. It started in the small village of Vidrieros. A steep road leads us past the small church "San Martin de Tours" and winds its way up to the Chozo de Pando, an accommodation for hikers. It continues up to 1,920m, with much higher mountains all around us that disappeared into the clouds. The descent is just as steep as the climb. We take a short break down by the river and then hike back towards the village without climbing any more meters. A beautiful tour with great views that doesn't require any technical skill, but does require a certain level of fitness.
