This route was planned by komoot.
The smugglers' trail starts at the Lazidberg station. Right at the start, the signpost gives the facts about the hike: walking time 6 hours, 13 kilometers, 460 meters ascent on the way there, 220 meters descent, 220 meters ascent on the way back, 460 meters descent As the cable car only runs until 4:30 p.m., you should think carefully about the tour and plan accordingly. The route is the same there and back. It is a themed trail called the smugglers' trail. On some of the information signs you can read about the trails, get famous smugglers' personalities and background information. There are also two other stations, at the first you can test how heavy a smuggler's backpack was and at the second you can search for financiers in the area. It's nice, but not very motivating as a themed trail with children.
The mountain hike should go from the Lassida mountain station to the Hexenseehütte. Here we followed the smugglers' path and with a live weight of 16 kg in the backpack it felt like "back then". The path pulled us over various scree fields and slabs of snow. The break at the Hexenseehütte was a relief, but the clock ⏰ is on your neck, as the last descent has to be reached at 4:30 p.m. Three hours of ascent and 2.5 hours of descent - exhausting but beautiful.
We took the gondola up from Serfaus. The smugglers' trail begins a little further up. Smuggling means something like black market and in the post-war years it was a dangerous way for some residents of the high plateau to keep their families afloat. Young, daring men set out on foot from Serfaus to duty-free Samnaun in Switzerland to buy goods such as tobacco, nylon stockings, coffee or saccharin, bring them across the border and later exchange them in Innsbruck and sell them for money make. Although smuggling was associated with numerous risks, in the post-war years of hardship, the desperately poor population had little choice but to smuggle before tourism provided income in the region. A very nice climb with lots of information.
Gps. Montana without train ride to the Lazidkopf: walking time approx. 5.15 hours, elevation gain and loss 647 m, km: 13,110 (tour edited) Today the weather gods were very kind to us. We got a little wet twice, but otherwise it was a wonderful day of hiking. The paths were partly very rocky. According to the weather forecast for Serfaus, it was supposed to rain all day. In the evening it got serious and rained.
Total 20km, altitude difference is not correct. Cell phone battery was empty so I stopped.
