What a ride! The route has everything from excellent bike paths to gravel tracks and wooden boardwalks. The signage is also great.
Great bike tour around the basin of Thau. Most of the tour is done on cycle paths which makes it very comfortable, exceptions are a short distance on gravel paths just after bouzigues which is however not a big issue even with a city bike. The other, most tricky part is in Sète itself where you will have to be on the road at some point during the ride. As french drivers seem to hate bikers with a passion and will pay no attention to anyone on a bike you have to be very careful. We were unfortunately witness to an accident that had just happened where a man on a bike was being taken to hospital after having been knocked off his bike by a car. This however does not change the fact that the tour is really lovely and well worth doing. If you want to stop off for a bite to eat on the way I would recommend 'marina bay' in Marseillan.
Tour of the Thau lagoon done as a couple (one e-MTB and one e-VTC). It's a nice route that mostly uses cycle paths and small roads with little traffic. The northern part of the Thau lagoon is much nicer, the landscapes are more varied in the city as well as in the countryside. The roadworks between Balaruc and Sète were quite difficult. Sète is pretty, but too many people, quite difficult too. Big favorite for Bouzigues, a very beautiful village!
very nice walk, magnificent course. only downside today, a wind that was blowing very, very strong.
Difficulty side: easy. Length approximately 58km depending on the small detours that can be made. Interesting to go to the Onglous lighthouse on the south side of the Canal du Midi (which we did not do). You actually have to retrace your steps (~4km AR)
An organized tour to show off the pond to friends. The nice surprise was the raised Sète movable bridges and a few refreshing drops of rain. The route is very nice but is a bit monotonous between Sète and Marseillan Plage. Note the excellent welcome we received at the "Petit mas" where we were offered to bring our bikes inside. The restaurant was full, so we finished our tour and returned a little later by car. Excellent welcome, top-notch service, and huge and delicious triploid oysters (I haven't looked into the meaning yet).
Since the cycle path was completed between Balaruc and Sète, it is truly one of the jewels of cycle tourism in the Languedoc region. I can't wait for restaurants and cafes to reopen!
A trail suggested by Aurel. 95% greenway, some paths, some rocks, superb landscapes and a surprising encounter between Canadair and Flemish aircraft. Lots of wind today, which made the temperature very pleasant.
