This route was planned by komoot.
This time we skipped the Walhalla and first walked along the Danube in the direction of Weltenburg. just before the pebble beach, it then goes up a somewhat steeper trail. due to the rain it was quite slippery and wet at times. After a befitting stop at the Weltenburg monastery, we then walked back on the other side via the Höhenweg. again and again the sun shined through the golden yellow colored beech forests - a great picture
So that we didn't spend the whole weekend just making our new apartment more comfortable, a somewhat longer tour was planned today. Since the weather was no longer forecast to be dry from midday onwards, the alarm went off promptly at 7. This time the starting point was even at an easily accessible parking lot. We walked right along the water and were able to enjoy the great view. Unfortunately, we were accompanied by small flies and countless mosquitoes almost the entire way. After we had enjoyed the last viewpoint, it started to rain. Luckily it didn't rain too heavily the whole time and so we arrived at the car relatively dry. Since our parking ticket was still valid for the whole day, we gave it to a family and went back home.
Today, I managed to go on another hike with my ex-colleague, Tom, who is still working. Our destination was Weltenburg Monastery. We started in Kehlheim and right from the start, we walked along beautiful forest paths on the right bank of the Danube up to the Wieserkreuz. The view from there, vertically above the Danube, is simply stunning. We continued almost entirely on forest paths behind Weltenburg Monastery. The restaurant was very busy, and our food received top marks. 👍⭐️ After crossing to the other bank of the Danube, we went to the top viewing point with a view of the monastery. This location is a "must" on this hiking tour. Afterwards, we descended steeply back to the Danube. From there, a level hiking trail leads back to Kehlheim. In summary: everything was perfect: the weather: great, the trails: great, the food: great. We had a wonderful day today.
It's quite windy, but also spring-like today. Loop 27 starts in Kelheim, first along the Danube. A beautiful scenic section. Behind the orchard it goes up to run over the Danube Gorge to Weltenburg. Opposite the monastery I stand again at the river. But zills, with which one could translate, are not to be seen today. It doesn't matter, the city of Kelheim operates a cable ferry at Stausacker, which you can use to get across the Danube quite reliably. Today nobody is there except us, we get a private transport, so to speak. A short detour to the Asam Church and the Frauenberg Chapel, which is well worth seeing, is a must before taking the signposted path back to Kelheim via the Wieserkreuz (loop 27 was not explicitly signposted on the way there, but corresponds to Danube Route I). PS: Komoot has miscalculated again - around 300 meters in altitude should be realistic 🤦🏼♀️
Today we went out for a hike with our work colleagues. We walked from Kelheim to Weltenburg, where we stopped for lunch. Then we went to the Wieser Kreuz, where I think one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the region is located. From there you have a wonderful view towards the Danube Gorge and the monastery, which is located on the other bank of the Danube.
