The first day's stage on the Iller cycle path took me from the starting point in Ulm to Altenstadt. In view of the weather report with rain and thunderstorms to be expected in Ulm in the afternoon as well as strong winds to storms at the destination, I decided not to visit Ulm and set off straight away. After a short stretch along the Danube, I reached the mouth of the Iller and followed the river against the direction of flow - a conscious decision in order to continue cycling towards the Alps (which paid off on the third day). The Iller cycle path ran close to the river all day and is almost entirely gravel. After about 35 kilometers, the day's goal is reached - a short starter stage, since I actually wanted to spend a little more time in Ulm.
The boys are on vacation... Lukas wanted to see where the Iller flows into the Danube...
Sun and no rain in itself. On the saddle and off towards the Alps. The Illertal cycle path has been on my bucket list for some time. Because I can only start in the afternoon, I plan the first stage to be relatively short. At the destination is the Christophorus campsite with a bathing lake. The cycle path is perfectly advertised, mostly along the Iller mostly on gravel paths. The river has a few barrages and built in harmless rapids.
