Najac is ranked among the most beautiful villages in France and it would be totally inconceivable to come and hike there without visiting it. Stretched on its rocky outcrop, the village seems to erect a guard of honor up to its castle. From the main square, known as Place du Faubourg, which serves as the official entrance to visitors, we reach the top of rue du Barriou which plunges abruptly into the heart of the old town. I left Najac by a pleasant wooded path that goes down to Aveyron. Ruins of old mills reclaimed by vegetation emerge from the forest like ancient pre-Columbian temples. In the background, the citadel of Najac does not take long to reappear. All that remains is to follow the bends in the path to return to Najac.
