I don’t find myself often in the Peak District, the only reason for this is that the public transport connections can be a little awkward from Leeds, but not impossible! Peaks are beautiful and there’s still so much to explore! On this particular Sunday I joined a hike that someone from the community had created and managed to get myself a lift to the location! We started the route in Buxton at a car park. This is a paid car park and due to the lack of signal do carry some change to pay for the parking. We didn’t have any change on us so we found a free spot on the on street parking near it, just by the facilities. When leaving the car park do make sure that you chose the correct path and don’t wander onto the private farm as you might get stuck after a while and will need to climb the wall! (This is exactly what happened to us) The route is rather flat for most part only at times it gets a bit tricky due to the rocky terrain. This is nothing that you won’t be able to overcome, you’ll just need to be mindful of your steps. The last part of the route got quite muddy and I think that for me personally last time I remember my feet being this muddy was after the Tough Mudder a few years back. I had paired my Keen NXIS walking boots with a pair of Sealskinz waterproof socks and these kept me dry! If not clean I was at least dry! At the last part of the route you’ll also be able to see a small cave which you’ll need to leave the route for a moment to inspect. It’s not very large but still worth a check as caves are fun. Back in Buxton we stopped at a pub to refresh ourselves and to have a cheeky beverage. The route overall is very easy and takes around 3 hours. It’s quite scenic and not very strenuous. If you’re looking for a chill Sunday walk I would recommend this! Triple Dale Ramble A pleasant afternoon outing in the White Peak with Becky. We started in Hartington at the Beresford Tea Rooms where we got chatting with some friendly firemen. A country lane led to the start of Biggin Dale. This was pleasant although the path was a bit rough. We turned into Wolfscote Dale, which has some impressive crags and the River Dove flowing serenely through it. We stopped for lunch along here. Next we made our way across the river into Beresford Dale. This is really beautiful with lots of greenery. Finally, a walk through some fields and back into Hartington, where we finished with some lunch outside at the Charles Cotton Hotel.
Some tricky bits along Biggin Dale, particularly just before the turn right to walk along the river Dove (you have to climb round!) Thanks v much to the guy who told me where my feet needed to go 🤣
This was a cracking walk! Extremely muddy, rocky and wet - but so lovely along the Dales. This was from a pub walk book, so we started and debriefed 🍻at the recommended Waterloo Inn, Biggin.
