This route was planned by komoot.
Off in decent time and immediately climbing into the Julian Alps. Beautiful sunny weather and spectacular mountain views all day. Short stop at the very scenic Predil Lake before the steeper ascent to the Predil Pass which was also our border crossing into Slovenia. A nice long descent through the Triglav National Park to Bovec and then followed along the well-known turquoise Soca River (rafting and kayaking) with a short snack stop on the river. Then turned north again at Trenta for the “Alpe-d’Huez“-like Vršič-Pass, the highest mountain pass in Slovenia. A steep 1200m climb in the hot afternoon sun with 49 numbered switchbacks (both sides). Spectacular mountain panoramas and a nice spot at the pass for a break. Fun to meet lots of other Grand Escape participants happy to reach the Pass after the tough, hot ascent. Then the long, fast descent to our day’s destination of Kranjska Gora, a popular winter-summer mountain sport location, with a stop at the pretty Jasna Lake for drinks. A challenging but beautiful day in the Julian Alps which could have been even better if there were less motorcycles underway…
On the second ascent in the cobblestone curves, you can overlook it, because otherwise the tour is so great
Great three-country day tour Austria, Italy, Slovenia 😀Unfortunately the weather didn't play along, but in the end you are completely satisfied 🤗
Better to drive clockwise... then you have Vrsic cobblestones in the driveway
