The Grosse Scheidegg is not only one of the most beautiful passes in Switzerland, but in all of Europe. However, you have to earn the unique experience of riding them. The pass is almost 2,000 meters high. In return you can enjoy fantastic views and a fantastic descent. In addition, the road is closed to cars. Apart from the famous yellow postbuses, you won't find any other vehicles here. The perfect excursion for everyone who appreciates the challenging climbs and the tranquility of the Swiss Alps.
It starts in Meiringen at the train station. You cross the Aare and after just a few turns of the pedals the ascent begins. In almost endless serpentines you screw yourself up. The prospects are getting better and better. Once at the top you have a fantastic view of the world-famous Eiger north face. There is also a mountain inn here if you want to strengthen yourself. Otherwise, you can also rush down the descent and drive to picturesque Grindelwald. Here, at the foot of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, you will also find rustic places to stop.
Behind Grindelwald it goes downhill for a long time, so you can let it roll well. After passing Interlaken, you can drive along the shore of Lake Brienz in a relaxed manner. Here you have fantastic views of the sparkling lake. Even down here in the valley you always have the majestic mountains in view. After about 72 kilometers you will return to your starting point in Meiringen. By the way, due to its altitude, you should note that the pass is closed in the winter months. The best time to go to the Grosse Scheidegg is between June and October.

We started in Brienz and rode clockwise to take advantage of the car-free section at the top and to finish along the lake. The descent through Grindelwald tested my not-so-technical descending …
I turned 39 today, and since I'm probably planning a big party next year, I decided to do exactly what I love most – ride mountain passes and take photos. And for that, I chose a very special mountain that's been on my bucket list for a long time: …

In this case, with absolutely perfect weather.
At least as a cyclist you save 2x 26 francs - that's how much the post bus costs up and down . . . 🤓
However, our "fuel consumption" was also relatively high considering the heat . . .
From Grindelwald and Rosenlaui onwards, the road is closed …
