Once a year, the picturesque landscape around Bad Goisern becomes a meeting point for mountain and gravel bikers: More than 5,000 bikers from over 40 nations gather here year after year to compete in the Salzkammergut Trophy and enjoy the wonderful mountain scenery.
On this training route, you can also embark on a gravel adventure between Hallstatt and Gosau during the bike season! Fancy taking part in the Trophy? All information can be found here: https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/oesterreich-veranstaltung/detail/48220006/salzkammergut-mountainbike-trophy/.
While this tour is certainly demanding in terms of fitness, the scenery is a dream. Here you get the full Dachstein Salzkammergut experience. With the Hallstättersee, Hallstatt, the Waldbachstrub waterfalls, the Gosau alpine pastures, and Gosausee with the Dachstein, one highlight follows another. So there are plenty of opportunities to catch your breath, rest, and enjoy.
Unlike the Trophy, you start right in the center of Bad Goisern and head directly towards the Hallstättersee. You follow the beautiful eastern shore cycle path with its spectacular suspension bridge over the deepest part of the Hallstättersee, before the first views of the world heritage town of Hallstatt open up. In Obertraun, with good weather, a stop at the lido is worthwhile before you pass the official start of the Salzkammergut Trophy's gravel competition.
Now it's time to head high: A long ascent awaits you, leading you up to the Rossalm. Along the way, you'll pass the impressive Waldbachstrub waterfall and get your first magnificent views of the Dachstein massif.
A wonderful, but quite demanding descent then takes you down to Gosausee with its majestic Dachstein glacier – undoubtedly one of the most beautiful spots in the Salzkammergut. Time for a break and a souvenir photo! Past sheep, cows, and horses, you then cycle along quiet paths and later along the main road back to the tour's starting point.

Leaving Bad Goisern, we follow the eastern shore of the idyllic Lake Hallstatt. There is so much to see here that we can hardly move forward!

The first few meters along the road to or directly through Hallstatt. Then turn off into the Echerntal where the biggest climb of the tour begins. At first it is a mixture of partly asphalt and loose forest road. The further up you go, the steeper it gets.
