Charismatic and imposing, Beinn Alligin is the most westerly of the Torridon giants. Its views to nearby Liathach and distant An Teallach will tempt you to linger on the tops for hours. Incorporate the imposing scramble across the pillars of the Horns of Alligin into your route for a marvellous circular.

Eag Dhubh Cleft, Beinn Alligin

Highlight • Gorge

Eag Dhubh is a colossal cleft in Beinn Alligin's otherwise beautiful form. Visible from a great distance, it cuts through the 'Jewelled Mountain' just below the main summit of Sgùrr Mòr. The resulting boulder field in the corrie below is clear evidence of its violent birth. Its dramatic appearance from the trail is a magnet for photographers.

A hike we had tried a few times before but failed due to weather conditions. This time we had mist and a little wind but nothing too serious.

This is a tough hike with some serious elevation, not one for those not confident in hiking abilities, serious exposure and sections of scrambling. From the Torridon car park you have 880m …
