The beautiful, around two-kilometer round takes you into the wilderness of the Valtavaara nature reserve. Although the path is short, it still has a few meters of altitude to offer. The views - especially from the top of Mount Konttainen - are great, so there's a good chance you'll meet other like-minded hikers here too. Incidentally, the Konttaisen Kuhaus is part of the popular Bärenrunde.
The tour starts at the hiking car park at the Virkkulantie. From there it is leisurely but steadily uphill. A great view of the landscape awaits you after just 500 meters. You climb further up a rocky path to the summit of Konttainen. Below you lie scenic forests, shimmering Lake Konttaisjärvi and the surrounding fells of Ruka. Here you have reached the highest point and also half of the route. Only one more kilometer, then you are back at the parking lot. Take your time for it.
