The land of 1,000 hills could also be called the land of 1,000 castles. The mighty buildings are stone witnesses to the eventful history of the past millennium. And all of this is best explored by bike.
The journey starts in Gondelsheim, where the first mighty castle awaits you. You can also get here easily by train.
The next highlight on the route is the city of Bretten with its pretty old town full of half-timbered houses. Here is a small coffee break to recharge your batteries for the next, somewhat hilly ten kilometers.
We continue to Flehingen with the stately Renaissance castle. Through a beautiful natural landscape on the Kraichbach you drive to Gochsheim. The mighty Graf Eberstein Castle, which was built over several centuries, is enthroned on the hill.
You continue to Bruchsal. The magnificent palace there was once the residence of the Prince-Bishops of Speyer. The last bit back to Gondelsheim you mostly drive on small streets along the Saalbach.

Kraichgau signposted castle tour. Past castles in Oberderdingen, Flehingen, Gochsheim, Gondelsheim and others. and as a highlight: Bruchsal Castle 😍😍, whose park is open to the public. Nice route - the only downer: the route between Unteröwisheim and Bruchsal goes alongside the road. We'd rather shorten that next time across the country to Bruchsal.
So I'm going to give you my last tour of my annual holiday this year... I drove past a few castles... But I started from Zeutern, from home, my battery and my butt wouldn't have been able to hold out... I have the habit of rarely stopping anywhere for a long time to rest... I then enjoy the end at home... well, and today I also noticed the 4.5 hours in the saddle. The tour was very varied and a little historical... I didn't stop in Bretten... somehow the large crowds of people always put me off and then I quickly move on. You can now tell that it's autumn, not only is the sun different, the leaves are also starting to change. The chestnut and linden trees are changing leaves, the chestnuts and nuts have already been blown down by the wind, the orchard fruit is lying on the paths and the fields have been harvested. There is still corn in places, but it looks more brown than green.....the wind is blowing strongly and people are already getting their "winter clothes" out....I always notice this especially because I was still wearing shorts and a shirt...well, I had a scarf on today, the first sign that I was getting cold too 😉..... and my komoot app.....of course it said I had a weak GPS signal again.....but it said everything was right, only the data was wrong...my watch said something different....but....I don't really care 😉🤣...other things are more important to me today
On the road again with my daughter. And because she likes palaces and castles, I chose this tour for us. It started from Gochsheim - parked directly below the castle. Then relatively quickly to Castle No. 2 in Flehingen. From here it took a bit until we reached Gondelsheim Castle. Very nice location, a really quaint building. The last port of call was Bruchsal Castle, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Shortly before dusk we reached the parking lot again and were rewarded with the beautiful panorama of the city of Gochsheim.
