Although we humbly gave sacrifices at the "Green Altar" in the form of microbiologically valuable organic soil substance from profile soles and grateful drops of sweat to the ascent hardship to apologize for any misconduct since sometime, the gatekeeper to heaven was not well-disposed towards us and opened those floodgates to those to empty completely. The expected result was the now repeating, historical deluge, which transformed once harmless stairways into raging torrents and washed clear and clean the blood stream in the valley of the same name, left behind by the murderous Saxons and Franks. Touted high-tech material was tested for functionality and failed. Snails and amphibians celebrated their happy birth, orchids and co. bloomed in bright colors, extensive fields of wild garlic gave off an intense, tempting scent and whetted the appetite. "Leaping Stags" hid behind the coral oolite rocks. Since the winking "devil" in his "pulpit" had an understanding with us, he closed the floodgates for the moment of spectacular Wesertal panorama enjoyment with goose bumps. An overwhelming post-monsoon scenery with the later appearance of water and floodplain forest-loving nature spirits and mythical and fairy-tale creatures.
Start at 12 p.m. in a parking lot on Kneipenstraße. At just under 8 kilometers, the loop is pleasantly short and perfect for a relaxed hike. After a rather quiet winter with few tours, this was one of the first short loops for me to slowly get back into it. At the beginning, it goes along the stream, where we stopped briefly to enjoy the watercourse. Afterwards, the ascent follows the well-known stairs up to the Hohen Stein. Once at the top, you are rewarded with a beautiful view – ideal for a short break. Afterwards, the path continues relaxed through the forest. In spring, the route is particularly beautiful: large areas full of wild garlic and, in between, blooming wood anemones in white and yellow. Nature is just awakening – and in a few weeks, everything here will be even greener. 🌺🌸🌼 A quiet, easy circular tour – perfect for getting back into it and simply being out and about again.
Today I only had a small window of time for hiking and opted for the relatively short Kreuzstein route. I'd had the Hohenstein Cliffs on my list for quite a while. And, as Hesiod said, the saying "the gods have placed sweat before the view" certainly applies here 😅. The climb isn't long, but it's quite challenging! Since it kept raining on and off throughout the ascent, it provided some welcome relief from the heat 🌧. And at the top, the rain actually stopped, and the sun came out ☀️. Combined with the magnificent view, it was a truly sublime moment. I can certainly understand why our ancestors considered this a sacred place. The path along the cliffs is truly magnificent, though not entirely without risk. Serious accidents, often fatal, occur here regularly. So: Enjoy the experience with respect for nature 😊! ... https://www.westliches-weserbergland.de/poi/die-klippen-vom-hohenstein The return journey through the long Föhr Valley, in contrast, was rather unspectacular. Overall, the Hohenstein nature reserve with its cliffs is a highly recommended destination!
Despite the stairs and the unusual rock structure, this isn't the tour to the Bastei in Saxon Switzerland. This is Langenfeld in Lower Saxony. Near Hamelin. Talk about LOWER Saxony! A very nice tour and easily accessible via the A2.
Great forest Very nice view from the "green altar" and from the "devil's pulpit" There are many legends surrounding the Hohenstein The Hohenstein is considered an old Germanic place of worship and is dedicated to the god Donar It was the main sanctuary of the Cherusci and later also of the Saxons
I haven't done any big hikes in a long time, but today was the day to grab my hiking boots 🥾🥾 and hit the trail. 😊
Today we finally wanted to go back to the Süntel with the nice weather. We started near Zersen from the Kreuzsteinquelle hiking car park. Here you have the advantage that you can tap fresh spring water. There is also a Kneipp facility here. We observed both at the beginning and at the end of our tour that families with children like to use it to play. We did the hike clockwise. This time on the Hohenstein the view wasn't quite as spectacular as it could be, but it's still always nice to be up here.
The cliffs of Hohenstein are a truly magical place with a fantastic view of the Weserbergland. From the car park of the Gasthof Pappmühle you can already get a first glimpse of the cliffs high up. The first slight ascent is constantly accompanied by the babbling of the blood stream - wonderful. You continue up the stairways. Once at the top, you reach the first vantage point relatively quickly - the Teufelskanzel. Amazing view 😇 - I could have sat here for hours. The next vantage point follows at the "green altar" - you just can't get enough of it. Also in between there are smaller ways to enjoy the view and to sit on the edge of the cliffs. But be careful, acute danger of falling. These small paths are really not without. About beautiful forest paths, past the blooming wild garlic, back to the parking lot. I'll be back, that's for sure 😃
