We took a walk along the "path of the vultures" (https://rando.parc-du-vercors.fr/trek/27723-Le-sentier-des-Vautours-d-Archiane) near the village of Archiane in the Vercors region. Four vulture species have been reintroduced here since the 1980s. They nest in the mountain walls surrounding this remote village. At the lookout point with the binoculars we sat in amazement for an hour watching the young griffon vultures in flight. Beforehand I had my doubts whether this is the right season to see the animals, but this view exceeded my expectations! At times, the mountainside seemed to explode from young birds taking to the skies at the same time. The griffon vulture is a beautiful kite, which mainly flies on thermals. Unfortunately they were too far away for a photo with the smartphone. But you shouldn't want to save everything either. Some things are more beautiful in memory.

Most of the positive elevation gain occurs over the first 2 kilometers.
