The shorter, nine-kilometer loop circles the Haltern Reservoir and offers a touch of holiday magic, as the reservoir is nestled in a beautiful forest setting. A natural beach and charming rest areas are included.
Your route begins at the lakeside promenade, leading directly to the small marina and water playground. Then simply start cycling around the lake, always with a view of the water.
Along the way, you have the opportunity to take a detour: the Westruper Heide, an important habitat for endangered species and a true treasure. Here, woodlarks and smooth snakes find refuge. Bizarre juniper bushes, heather, and bell heather abound in this fairytale landscape. This place is more than worth seeing, not just during the heather bloom in August/September!
Next detour: the Blue Classroom. At this water-based learning and adventure site right on the Stever River, children use nets and magnifying glasses to experience, explore, and discover everything there is to know about the Stever. An interactive outdoor monitor displays measurements of the river's water level and speed. Experience nature in a modern way – exciting for all ages!
And for those who fancy a boat trip: The passenger ship Möve travels on Lake Haltern from the north shore to the west shore, then down to the south shore, and finally docks on the east shore. 90 minutes of pure vacation bliss!
