Schneeberg Round – gravel bike tours in the Vienna Woods

Gravel riding

The end of the collection is the Schneeberg circuit around the town of Puchberg am Schneeberg. It is located exactly at the transition between the Vienna Woods and the Alps. As a result, you can already enjoy a fairly alpine landscape here and there is always a magnificent panorama of Schneeberg, Rax & Co.

First you leave Puchberg in a southerly direction and soon you will reach the first highlight, the Johannesbachklamm. There is an excellent refuge here and if you fancy a little walk, you can also explore the gorge. Unfortunately, cycling is not permitted, instead the tour takes you around the gorge. Over gravel paths, forest roads and some hills you are now on your way back towards Puchberg.

But instead of ending the journey now, it's up high again. The ascent to the Mamauwiese mountain inn is difficult, but it's worth it, because at the top there is the opportunity to stop off and, above all, a wonderful view of the surrounding peaks. Then you have a rapid descent ahead of you to reach Puchberg again.

The journey to Puchberg am Schneeberg is easy thanks to the well-coordinated regional trains of the ÖBB. To do this, take a train to Wiener Neustadt, where you change to the small train to Puchberg. At the weekend there are also direct trains from Vienna Central Station to Puchberg. Alternatively, you can also find parking spaces at the train station in Puchberg.

If you want to extend the route a bit and simplify the journey at the same time, you can also start directly from Wiener Neustadt. That's about 17 kilometers each way on quiet roads and bike paths.

Marias Land Lake is a small, idyllic pond nestled in the rolling hills near Puchberg am Schneeberg – a true insider tip for hikers seeking peace and quiet. Surrounded by meadows, trees, and a lovingly landscaped area, the lake invites you to linger, relax, and contemplate. Benches and small wooden figures create a special, almost fairytale-like atmosphere. The spot is perfect for a relaxing break or as a quiet climax to an enjoyable hike through the region.
