This route was planned by komoot.
No, this loop is considered difficult and is not recommended for beginners or families with young children. The initial ascent via the Trail of Hope involves nearly 2,000 steps and a significant elevation gain, which is very strenuous. The Vajo dell'Orsa section also includes exposed paths with metal cords and a very steep descent, requiring good fitness and sure-footedness.
The trail typically starts from Brentino Belluno. You can find parking in the village, which provides access to the Trail of Hope (Sentiero del Pellegrino) leading up to the Sanctuary.
The primary highlight is the breathtaking Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona, built directly into the cliff face. Other notable features include the challenging Trail of Hope with its numerous steps, the adventurous Tibetan Bridge offering views of a waterfall, and the dramatic canyons and rock formations within the Vajo dell'Orsa.
The terrain is varied and challenging. It begins with a long, steep ascent of nearly 2,000 steps on the Trail of Hope. The Vajo dell'Orsa section includes gently descending paths, some exposed sections equipped with metal ropes for safety, and a swaying Tibetan Bridge. The descent on trail 74 is very steep and rocky, with sections close to drops, though generally well-graded.
While dogs are generally allowed on trails in the region, the extreme difficulty of this particular loop, especially the steep steps, exposed sections, and the Tibetan Bridge, makes it unsuitable for most dogs. Consider their safety and comfort before bringing them on this challenging route.
The best time to hike this loop is typically during spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) when temperatures are milder. Summer can be very hot, especially on the exposed sections, and winter conditions can make the steep and rocky parts dangerous due to ice or snow.
No specific permits or entrance fees are required to hike the Madonna della Corona Loop via Vajo dell'Orsa or to access the general Monte Baldo area. However, visitors are expected to respect local regulations, stay on marked paths, and practice Leave No Trace principles.
Yes, sections of this route overlap with several other paths, including the European long-distance path E7 - part Italy, Brentino - Ferrara di Monte Baldo, Sentiero del Vajo dell'Orsa, Cammino dei due Santuari, and Sentiero della Speranza.
Near the Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona, you can find some facilities such as restrooms and possibly small shops or cafes. In Brentino Belluno, the starting point, there may be limited amenities. It's always best to carry sufficient water and snacks for the duration of the hike.
Given the difficult terrain and significant elevation changes, wear sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support. Bring plenty of water, snacks, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and layers of clothing as weather can change. Trekking poles are highly recommended for stability on the steep ascents and descents. A headlamp or flashlight is also advisable, especially if starting early or finishing late.
The initial climb from Brentino Belluno to the Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona via the Trail of Hope is very demanding, taking 1.5 to 2 hours for the ascent alone. To make it more manageable, start early in the morning to avoid the midday heat, take frequent short breaks, and maintain a steady pace. Hydration is key throughout this section.
The ascent to the Madonna is less than 3 km long, but it is tough and definitely worth it. I followed a hiking trail back into the valley that leads beautifully through the shady forest. Wire ropes are usually attached to make it a bit safer. Towards the end of the hiking trail, however, you still have to go down a "via ferrata", which is quite feasible. Be careful on the scree
Variant to the Speranza path to go from Brentino Belluno to the Madonna della Corona. Continuing out of Brentino, 300 meters after the wash house, an initially unmarked path branches off next to a house. Once you reach a dirt road, turn left and after a bend you will find an EE path on the left towards Ferrara di Monte Baldo. It is a very steep path with some technical passages to be tackled very calmly so as not to run out of oxygen. After a couple of km there is a left turn signposted for Malga Orsa - Tibetan Bridge - Sentiero della Speranza immersed in the woods and on a slight slope. Before the bridge you can cross a stream with the help of a steel rope and after passing two branch barriers you can photograph the Tibetan bridge from behind. Obviously some attention is needed. Going back and crossing the stream again, in a few minutes you are at the Tibetan Bridge and continuing for 20 minutes you get back to the path of hope. About ten minutes you go up on the right to the Madonna della Corona. I then return to Brentino along the path of hope. Ps parking in the center all for a fee (1 euro per hour), there is a free space 1 km before arriving at the Church
Didn't stop the recording up in the church, that's why this point in the middle. 🤨 You can still "pull it off". Smart shoes are required for the descent.
The ring begins with the stairway from the village of Brentino Belluno (path 73). Wide path with large steps that can be covered by everyone (just overcome the effort, there are 600 m in altitude to overcome in 3 km, about 1500 steps). I recommend the small detour to the cross (viewpoint indicated). Once you arrive at the sanctuary, a visit is a must. Retrace your steps until you reach the crossroads for il vajo dell'orsa (well signposted), path 75. This path is suitable for experienced hikers as it is partly exposed. After the recently installed bridge (get off at the panoramic point for the waterfalls), you will go up to the crossroads with the Malga dell'orsa (closed and unsafe). From here a short flat section and then a sustained descent begins again (a section has a wire rope to help you on rocks which can cause problems especially if it has just rained). Return to the village by passing to the side of the infopoint
Beautiful route that from Brentino reaches the sanctuary of the Madonna della Corona and then descends from the Vajo dell'Orsa path which also boasts a small Tibetan bridge. There are 1,614 steps but they are well covered and although a sign at the beginning of the staircase says that it takes 2 hours to get to the top, in reality it takes much less, at least for those who are at least fit! The sanctuary is always a spectacle, even after I have been there several times! The total difference in altitude is only 800 MT. of which 600 are concentrated in the stretch up to the sanctuary. The final descent is steep.
This tour was one of the most strenuous that we have done with Komoot so far. But it was also one of the most beautiful tours. Anyone who hikes this tour should definitely find out more beforehand and take the elevation profiles seriously. The tour is really "difficult"! Not recommended/doable with small children due to the via ferratas, the width of the path at the edge and the ground!!! Even occasional hikers should view the tour with respect. A good level of basic fitness, surefootedness on rough terrain and good footwear are essential!!! Fear of heights is not helpful in some places!
