Ring ride on the Zebio, historical place of the Great War. Starting from the beginning from Val Giardini. Proceeding in the direction of Monte Zebio you can encounter various testimonies of the First World War including the crater caused by the explosion of the Scalambron mine: on June 8, 1917, which destroyed the garrison of the Catania Brigade. Along the way you can easily find numerous testimonies of that era (trenches, tunnels, shelters and cemeteries) told by signs that narrate the vicissitudes.
The route develops entirely on forest roads in the woods and hiking trails that are easy to follow even in the presence of snow.
Very nice and not even demanding tour, with a concentration of testimonies of the Great War. Beyond the considerable historical interest, it is striking for the variety of landscapes and above all for the beautiful woods of the plateau, very high and very thick, which you cross! In particular: along the path that climbs from the 'Puntara del Lom' to the Bivacco dell'Angelo, on the outward journey; and along the military road (partly with the original pavement) that descends from the Sassari Cemetery, on the way back. It is a ring also often made clockwise and with different variations. Note: the initial path of my track (which forks alongside the Casa di Sant'Antonio) is currently canceled by forestry work and invaded by vegetation: easy to get lost in the woods... better to walk along the parallel forest road, on the right; or go up the same road by car up to the cross of Sant'Antonio or up to the previous intersection, shortening the ring and cutting the first part (which is not particularly interesting).
For those who don't have an off-road vehicle, I recommend parking at the end, since the beginning of the route is all white road. At the end of the road (you will find a cross beforehand) the path begins in the woods which will take us to Malga Zebio (I advise against eating there, it costs a lot and gives little). The route is fabulous because it is a mix of woods, rocks of all kinds. Near the hut there is the open-air war museum, along this route you will find various bivouacs, cemeteries, trenches, etc. Recommended for war enthusiasts and not just lovers of the forest and different terrains. Ps: part of the route was lost because on the way back into the woods the signal was lost for about 15/20 minutes.
After hearing it so much, here I am finally at Mount Zebio, with a simple hike from Asiago, first through the woods 🌲 and then through meadows and mountain pastures 🐮, leading to the charming Malga Zebio, open every day (at least until it gets cold). The trail is rich in beautiful landscapes, especially in the second section, but also in history, with trenches and cemeteries ✝️ from the First World War 🪖. For enthusiasts, this is a hike not to be missed. P.S. The last stretch, about 1 km, is missing because Komoot has been acting up 😵💫, but you can't go wrong, the trail continues straight to the starting point 🚘.
There is a small parking lot for 7/8 cars just before the Casa Alpina Sant'Antonio, then the dirt road begins and you could go much higher. The tour takes place quite under the woods sheltered from the sun and you come across various grassy clearings. The top of Monte Zebio is not well marked, you go past it without noticing. The descent to the Angelo bivouac (very relaxing) crosses a stretch of meadows and woods. The dirt road is boring.
