NOTE: Great walk through the Bosque del Remendón, considered one of the best preserved oak groves in Cantabria. The route starts from the Barrio de Angostina (In Guriezo) and we start on one side of the river to climb a track in a mountain of eucalyptus trees approx. up to km. 2.7 to get off the track entering a path to the left to a totally different forest with more native trees, although we do not stop climbing until reaching the maximum altitude and from there go more or less flat along a beautiful path in the forest (Sendero del corcillo) and next to the Mongarrido canal. There are some argayos along the way but they can be avoided without much problem, we cross quite a few streams of water that come down from the mountain and we even cross two bridges that are actually the same channel, in order to continue. Of course, you have to be VERY CAREFUL about km 9.15 and pay close attention to the signs of the path, because arriving at a beautiful oak tree on the edge of the road DO NOT FOLLOW FRONT (even if it is the most obvious path), you have to take a DEPARTURE TO THE RIGHT, something abrupt and that seems to go in the opposite direction going up a bit of terrain, which is where the path has been going for some time. We did not see it and we continued to face it confidently and after a fallen tree there was a dangerous argayo next to the canal that cost us a lot to get through and a little further on we saw a fence and a huge landslide that has been loaded all the way, leaving a huge ravine quite high and with no apparent exit, impossible to avoid. We had to look for sticks and rocks to be able to go through the previous argayo of the channel (quite dangerous, especially with two children) and desperately looking for an escape, we saw the path that went up just in front of the beautiful oak and a cross sign of the route ( there were really 5 of us, three adults and two children, and we all went unnoticed because the exit from the path is abrupt, they should signal it better for the danger that lies ahead. Even the GPS that we had did not mark the detour for us). The rest without problems, the alternative path left us again on the correct path and the path without loss. Further on there is another argayo that is overcome by entering the channel and continuing a few meters further on where a mound of earth allows you to get out of it... Then without problems, without oaks, returning again to Eucalyptus plantations and exiting onto a track. that returns us to Angostina just on the other side of the Remendón river from which we only have to cross the bridge and we are at the starting point.
Through the green hell of Armañón along abandoned irrigation canals. Very lonely and very nice to walk, but watch out for blackberry bushes. Next time wear long trousers! Start and finish in Angostina, where there is also a nice little bar.
