Even if the asphalt Havelradweg is not the ideal area for your mountain bike, it will bring you smooth and very promising from A to B here on the dike. Numerous rest areas also invite you to take an idyllic break.

Vorstadtschleuse Brandenburg

Highlight • Structure

The first locks in Brandenburg are mentioned in medieval literature: in the Stadtgraben (city moat) (1455) and in front of the Steintor (Kesselschleuse, 1548).
Since the Kesselschleuse (cauldron lock) in front of the Steintor (city lock) had reached its capacity by 1870, another lock was built in the Krakauer Vorstadt (suburban lock) between 1881 and 1883 in a cut between the southern end of Lake Beetz and the northernmost inlet of Lake Plau, Lake Quenz.
Due to the increasing use of barge traffic, the barge lock (southern chamber), which still exists today, was built between 1904 and 1909 to meet the requirements of barge traffic.
The old Vorstadt lock was rebuilt in 1970.
