Queichpark Landau

Highlight (Segment) • Parking

Very nice path along the Queich with a playground, rest and rest areas. The trees planted are still a bit small and it will take a few years before they can provide sufficient shade.
The area was created as part of the “Reallabor Queichland”, a project by the University of Koblenz-Landau together with committed citizens and students to offer participation and information. uni-landau.de/rlq/wordpress

Südpark Landau

Highlight • Natural

If you want to go in from the south to Landau or out from Landau from the north, you should walk over the former LGS site. Traffic-calmed and with good paths, the area is great for walking. It extends from the entrance in the north over the tower in the south to the new sports center in the east.

St. Martin’s Church, Mörlheim

Highlight • Religious Site

"Knight Stefan von Mörlheim, the co-founder of the Cistercian monastery Eußerthal, had given his aristocratic court and a chapel to the monastery in Mörlheim around 1148.

After an eventful history, the dilapidated church of St. Martin in Mörlheim became the property of the Catholics in 1705. The monastery church in Eusserthal and the Mörlheim church still show a miter and an abbot's staff on the top of the church tower next to the cross - ecclesiastical symbols that Heinrich Wilhelm, Freiherr von und zu Sickingen was allowed to wear as a layman.

In 1754, Heinrich Wilhelm, Freiherr von und zu Sickingen, had the Mörlheim church rebuilt. The date of dedication is September 14, 1754.

The church had fallen into disrepair again 150 years later, at the beginning of the 20th century. The ringing of the bells in the ridge turret had made the church ceiling brittle and the cramped space was no longer sufficient for churchgoers.

One hundred years ago, on July 1, 1912, the conversion to the current church began according to plans by the architect Johannes Albert Boßlet. It was extended to the west, and the previous beam ceiling was replaced by a baroque-style Rabitz ceiling suspended from the roof truss, which visually rests on newly placed wall pillars.

Finally, a nearly 30 meter high church tower was erected. Two bells call for prayer, and the city of Landau owns the clock and the large dials.

The conversion of the church and above all the new building of the church tower was made possible by the Bavarian Church Community Code of 1912. According to it, the foreign property owners could also be used with levies for the construction and maintenance of religious buildings. A good 75 percent of the Mörlheimer Land, which is subject to a levy, used to belong to the foreigners, the "Ausmärkern".

The extensive renovation of the church in 2008 gave the Mörlheim church great splendor. (Egon Ehmer)"
