Tonberge / Tonteich Wildau-Hoherlehme (Protected Natural Monument)

Highlight • Natural Monument

There were once many brickworks around the clay pond, which mined clay and peat for brick production. Today, the area is a natural monument and hiking area.

Kreuzkirche Königs Wusterhausen

Highlight • Religious Site

A wooden church stood on the site of today's Church of the Holy Cross until 1693, but it collapsed in a fire. Elector Frederick III, who regularly stayed at his palace in Wusterhausen, subsequently commissioned the construction of a stone church. Over the years, the church was expanded several times.

It underwent its most significant reconstruction at the beginning of the 19th century, when the original wooden tower was replaced by the striking octagonal tower. The restored paintings in the interior are also particularly worth seeing.

Königs Wusterhausen Palace

Highlight • Castle

The small castle stands on the former site of a moated castle and dates back to the 16th century in its current form. King Frederick William I spent much of his youth here and repeatedly fled to the idyllic Wusterhausen during his reign. His numerous visits and hunting trips to the castle earned the town the nickname "Königs Wusterhausen."

Today, the castle houses a museum. The centerpiece of the exhibition are 40 paintings painted by the king himself. After visiting the castle, you can stroll through the beautifully landscaped castle gardens. The former outbuildings surrounding the castle now house the castle café.

More information about the castle can be found at spsg.de/schloesser-gaerten/objekt/schloss-schlossgarten-koenigs-wusterhausen.

The cradle of German radio. The Funkerberg (formerly Windmühlenberg) is an elevation up to 67.5 meters high, partly wooded, in the northwest of Königs Wusterhausen in Brandenburg. Starting in 1911, the German Army's signal troops erected extensive broadcasting facilities and a radio barracks on the approximately 130-hectare site.

On December 22, 1920, Germany's first radio broadcast was transmitted here with a Christmas concert, earning the Funkerberg the title "Cradle of Radio". In memory of this event, the Königs Wusterhausen Radio Technology Museum moved into one of the transmitter buildings in 1993. The buildings and technical facilities are largely listed as historical monuments. Barracks buildings and the riding hall have been converted into the residential complex "Am Funkerberg" since 2014.
