The Lüntec Tower (also called Colani Egg or UFO) is the futuristic redesign of a winding tower of the former Minister Achenbach coal mine in the Brambauer district of Lüner.
After mine 4 at the Minister Achenbach colliery was shut down in 1990, RAG used the site for apprentice training until 1992. The Lünen Technology Center, or Lüntec for short, was then built in the administration and Kauen buildings built in 1922 and was founded on October 11, 1991. The renovation work that began in 1993 was completed in May 1995 with the placement of the Colani egg on the winding tower.
The object, designed based on a sketch by designer Luigi Colani, is intended to clearly illustrate the structural change in the Ruhr area. On the Industrial Heritage Route it is one of several themed routes.
The “UFO” has been shining in new splendor since mid-2009. After extensive renovation work, a business lounge was created at a height of 35 meters with a panoramic view of Lünen and the surrounding area. The shaft hall became the foyer and is used as an event room.
In 2008, the ensemble was expanded to include the Black Cube, which expanded the technology center's office space. In this context, it received the Artwork of the Year 2009 award from the Lünen Art Association.
At RUHR.2010, the building ensemble was presented together with other art and cultural objects as part of the Shining Heads of the Lippe Region project.

Datteln-Hamm Canal

Since 1914, the Datteln-Hamm Canal has connected the eastern Ruhr area with the cities of Hamm and Lünen to the West German canal network. From the branch from the Dortmund-Ems Canal near Datteln, it runs south of the Lippe and ends after 47 km at the height of the Hamm-Uentrop power plant. The originally planned continuation to Lippstadt was no longer pursued after the Second World War. Source: WSV. en

The Preußenhafen (Prussia Port) is a port built in 1924/1925 and put into operation in the autumn of 1925. It is located on the Datteln-Hamm Canal (canal km 14.16 – 14.34) in Lünen-Süd (Horstmar district).

Originally, it served as a transshipment point for the Preußen coal mine in Lünen and the Gneisenau coal mine in Dortmund-Derne. Its heyday as a coal transshipment point began in 1925, and in the mid-1960s, the port was expanded to its current dimensions. From the late 1980s onward, it declined in importance due to the closure of the coal mines. The former colliery railway line is now the "Gneisenau Trail," a cycle and hiking path that leads past the Preußen spoil heap on the other side of the railway line and on to Derne.[1]

[1] Today it is intensively used for tourism due to its proximity to the Lünen lake park and the Horstmarer See lake, for motor and leisure boats and as a water hiking rest area, as well as a landing stage for the passenger ship "Santa Monika" and as a museum.

The Preußenhafen, which was once a transshipment point for coal and steel, is still a transshipment point today; but for coffee, cake, beer and sausages. 😜

At this point in Deusen, with a view from the Emscher Bridge, you can clearly see how the former sewer has become a natural river again.
