Southern entrance to Dosenmoor Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural Monument

There aren't that many paths that lead to the can moor... There is a good way to get in here, but please drive carefully and watch out for the snakes that can lie on the path and, of course, for the other animals. Driving slowly is the order of the day here.

In the Einfeld district, or rather on the outskirts of the town, between the "Am Moor" street
and the "Hamburg - Kiel" railway line, there is a 1.3 hectare area that was previously used for growing corn, among other things. It is located west of the Dosenmoor nature reserve.
In May 2006, the reforestation of the community forest area in Einfeld was completed.
A donation from the Rotary Club Neumünster made it possible to plant 17 "Trees of the Year" in the community forest area "Am Moor" in Einfeld. The very impressive trees, some of which were 4 meters high when planted, also form a signposted tree trail,
as information signs were also placed in front of the trees.

Dosenmoor Boardwalk

Highlight • Natural Monument

The 521-hectare moor is the largest remaining contiguous raised bog in the Schleswig-Holstein hills. Together with the neighboring Einfelder See, the Dosenmoor, a nine-square-kilometer-large Dosensee (Dose Lake), was formed during the last Ice Age in a hollow between sandur and young moraine, and later evolved from a fen into a raised bog. The Dosenmoor has a peat thickness of up to eight meters and was designated a nature reserve and a Habitats Directive (FFH) area in 1981. FFH areas are special protected areas designated under the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive and serve to protect plants (flora), animals (fauna), and habitats (habitat types).

The name Dosenmoor may originate from a Holstein peasant knight named Daso de Ennigge (Daso from Innien, a village west of Neumünster), who lived in the mid-12th century and gave his name to the Dosen villages.

Settlement in the area can be documented as far back as 8000 BC.

However, it could also have a different origin.

The term "Dose" refers to several small moors in the Emsland region, surrounded by geest.
