Polney Loch

Bench With View of Polney Loch

Highlight • Viewpoint

Polney Loch, (also known as the Goat's Pool), lies beneath the imposing cliffs of Craig a' Barns. Close to the edge of the lochs, stealthy grey herons can often be seen waiting motionless to spear an unsuspecting fish or frog.

Port-na-Craig Suspension Bridge

Highlight • Cycleway

Back door cycle route into/out of Pitlochry to stay off the main road A924 into town. Bonus, it is a nice steel suspension bridge c1913. It replaced a ferry which had operated since the 12th century.

Logierait Viaduct

Highlight • Historical Site

Designed by architect Joseph Mitchell, this former railway viaduct opened in 1865, carrying the now-closed Aberfeldy line over the river Tay. In 1994 it was gifted to the local community and in 2000/2001 reopened after many years of disrepair as a community-owned road bridge, having cost around £400,000 to restore.

Dunkeld Cathedral

Highlight • Religious Site

There's been an important place of worship here since the early Celtic Church of the 9th century, but no trace of this building remains. The present cathedral dates from 1318. It was damaged during the reformation in 1560.

The choir is now roofed and holds regular Sunday services, but the rest of the cathedral is ruined. It's preserved as a historic monument by Historic Scotland.

In winter 2022, the Cathedral was closed due to dangerous stonework. It's currently under repair and should open again soon but there is no set date. Check dunkeldcathedral.org.uk for updates.

Dunkeld Bridge was built by Thomas Telford in 1809 and was the main road north to Inverness until the A9 was built in 1977. Today, it provides excellent views up and down the River Tay.

July 6, 2021,Emtb Road Ride - Pitlochry to Dunkeld loop
A flat as you can get ride around here, on the road and on some cycle paths. Used my emtb on various settings (eco, turbo etc). If you’re lucky you may spot ospreys flying near Dunkeld. Start stage by the caravan park where the country road has small climbs (cycle route 77). But if you are practicing your froome style …
