Craster Mermaid Statue

Highlight • Monument

Discover the mermaid statue located near the R.N.L.I. building in Craster. This unique sculpture was created specifically for the filming of the TV series "Distant Shores" in 2005. In the series, Craster represented the fictional Northumbrian island of Hildasay, and various local landmarks, including the harbor, were transformed for the show. Although "Distant Shores" received mixed reviews and only one season aired in the U.K., the mermaid statue remains as a lasting reminder of the series' presence in the village. Take a moment to admire this intriguing piece of art and its connection to the world of film.
