White Coppice to Great Hill Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Summit

This is a great hiking path that starts at White Coppice cricket club that takes you up past Joe Whitter, the fell runner’s memorial, and onwards up to Great Hill and the summit rest area. Here you will find a stone cross seating area. There are stunning views to be had over to Winter Hill, the North Wales hills, and the Irish Sea on a fine day. Be advised that the path is quite rocky, so it is best to wear a decent set of footwear.

Highlight • Natural Monument

Part of the West Pennine Moors, so plenty bog around, well pathed from white coppice and over spitlers edge. One of my favorite local hills. Views over to Darwen Tower (aka The Rocket) as well as Winter Hill and Rivington Pike. Can be approached from a few different directions. Nice summit shelter for a brew and lunch!

The Moor Lane viewpoint above Anglezarke Reservoir is a good place to start a walk or stop to take in the views. There are a good set of paths from here, around the reservoirs or east up onto Anglezarke Moor.

August 11, 2021,Great Hill from Anglezarke - lovely morning stroll!

My favorite area of the West Pennine Moors. Expect bog even after dry weather - its what gives these Moors character. Great Hill is a nice hill with amazing views over winter hill and Rivington, and Darwen Tower. You really get a good view of Lancashire here.
