Uttoxeter Town Centre

Highlight • Monument

Uttoxeter is a friendly market town in the heart of Staffordshire. It is a good base for exploring the Churnet Valley and its beautiful woodland, while the Peak District National Park is a short drive to the north. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the town centre, where the White Hart Hotel represents a good option for accommodation.

Fossor Sculpture, Rocester

Highlight • Monument

To the north of where the River Churnet flows into the River Dove, is the historic village of Rocester. It was home to one of Richard Arkwright's water mills during the Industrial Revolution, but that has since made way for heavier industry.

Today, Rocester is home to the world headquarters of JCB, who landscaped much of the grounds around the village. Pride of place is the Fossor sculpture, a 36 ton representation of a JCB, which was the largest steel sculpture in Europe at the time of its inception in 1979.
