Description of the way: From the Kurhaus Bad Homburg on the> Schwedenpfad, straight on> Herderstraße, up the mountain, on the right hand side past (-Deutsche Bahn AG, DB Training, Learning & Consulting-) to the edge of the forest. Then keep left on> Schillerstraße and the next right on> Philosophenweg to Hardtwald-Hotel. Keep left at the fork.

The forest playground Hardtwald mi Schutzhütte is a few meters further on the left.

A nice place to relax and have a picnic.

Bad Homburg Forest Cemetery

Highlight • Historical Site

The forest cemetery, which was created by the town of Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe in 1920-1922, was the first to house a burial site for 19 war dead from the First World War who had died in Bad Homburg military hospitals. During the Second World War and after its end, other war dead were buried in the vicinity of this site: mainly German soldiers and civilian air war victims, but also the former Soviet prisoner of war Alexei Danilov. In 1949, the Volksbund began to redesign the site, which took on its current structural form. The design for the redesign came from Robert Tischler, the Volksbund's chief architect from 1926 to 1959. In 1951, a bronze "shrine of honor" was made for the chapel at the front of the redesigned burial site. It has the shape of a three-winged altarpiece divided into eight sections. In the fields, plaques are mounted on which the names of the dead are listed alphabetically.

Grave of Alfred Herrhausen

Highlight • Historical Site

The spokesman for the management board of Deutsche Bank, Alfred Herrhausen, is buried here. Professionally and personally, he was considered an exception among top German managers. On November 30, 1989 he was murdered in a cowardly terrorist attack. In my opinion, the grave reflects his personality. Reserved, humble, yet impressive.
