Albert Canal towpath

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The towpaths are primarily service roads. They are necessary for the maintenance of canals, waterways, banks, quay walls and bridges. The towpaths are also public roads, mostly for walkers and cyclists only. The smooth and car-free cycling connections attract tourist cyclists, cyclists and walkers. Roller skaters and anglers, for example, also use the towpaths. Because of the mixed use of the towpaths, the users have to take each other into account.

Every day many walkers and cyclists pass along the canal towpath. De Vaart offers them a smooth journey to work, a quiet bike ride among friends or a pleasant walk on a car-free route. Obvious? Nope. Because, although the canal is 'just' a fact for us, it was desperately needed for our Kempen ancestors.

Along the 'de vaArt' route we take you into the past and also the present of the Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten canal. From murals to an XL postcard from the old box: artistic objects at ten locations along the Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten Canal will now visualize the story of this remarkable canal. You can find the full stories via the free app izi.travel, route de vaART.

Distance
The route runs along the Dessel - Turnhout - Schoten canal. The single distance is 63 km, but you can pick up where you want.

Stone Windmill of Pulderbos

Highlight • Monument

A few hundred meters from the center of Pulderbos we find the mill at Molenheide 67. Construction work started in March 1840. The stone windmill first turned in 1843. Today it is protected along with its surroundings. The mill turns and grinds on Sunday afternoons. The mill is even open to the public between 1 and 6 pm (in winter until 5 pm). Feel free to take a look inside. You can see the miller at work, learn a lot in the exhibition 'from grain to flour' and buy a delicious mill bread on the side.
You can also visit the mechanical mill, the Molenhuis, the Karkot Museum and the Bijenhal on the site.

The mill can also be viewed in a group by appointment. Make your appointment via the Zandhoven Tourism Office.

Grobbendonk Watermill

Highlight • Monument

Grobbendonk's water mill is located at the confluence of the Kleine Nete and Aa and is one of the most beautiful hammer mills in the Kempen. This 13th-century battle mill still grinds daily, oats and barley are crushed for horse feed. Until today, the mill is only powered by water power, which is unique for Flanders
