Not only a great view, but a great gnarly downhill to Stoughton too

A nature reserve, Kingley Vale has some established mountain bike tracks which are easy to find. The ground here is chalky so difficult to ride when wet.

Well worth pedalling to the top to see the views.

Racton Monument Ruins

Highlight • Monument

Racton Monument (known locally as Racton Ruin) is a folly on a hill in Racton, West Sussex, England with views over Chichester Harbour and to the Isle of Wight.

It was commissioned by the 2nd Earl of Halifax, either as a summerhouse for the nearby Stansted Estate or so he could watch his merchant ships dock at the nearby port, Emsworth, on The Solent.
One news report states that the lower level was also to be used for holding banquets.

This Grade II listed building was designed by architect Theodosius Keene, son of Henry Keene. It was built between 1766 and 1775 and some sources suggest that it has been called Stansted Castle. [...] However, it has been abandoned for over a century and is in a state of ruin, with the floors and much of the original flint facing having disappeared, and its roof caving in.

Ref. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racton_Monument

In the current conditions, the monument is a point of 'undesirable and sometimes illegal gatherings'.
Vegetation all around the monument is vastly overgrown and hiding (at least from ground level, there is no safe and legal access to the top floors of the monument) the views the monument was created for.

Access to 'Monument Lane' can be easily missed, as you need to squeeze between an access gate and a hedge and the narrow passage is not immediately obvious.

The lane is a 'restricted byway', so it is legal to ride by bicycle. It is, however, mostly unpaved (remains of old paving can be seen underneath the gravel and dirt) and better suited for Gravel bikes and MTBs due to the little traction the steepish climb offers in the current conditions - I did manage it on 28mm tubeless road tyres and a road bicycle, YMMV.

View of Stansted House from the Bridleway

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This scenic bridleway takes you through the grounds of Stansted Park. It offers a great viewpoint of Stansted House, a grand Edwardian country house set in a 1,800-acre (7 km2) park. The bridleway is a mix of tarmac, compact gravel and grass.
