With its 12 arches, the Oberkirchen viaduct, built between 1934 and 1936, is by far the largest and most impressive structure on the Westrichbahn Türkismühle - Kusel. In terms of its design, it is one of the largest stone bridges in southwest Germany. It spans the Ostertal at a height of 30m over a length of 275m. The core of the bridge consists of reinforced concrete, the masonry was made with 16,000 m³ of local natural stone "Basalt - Deopryll". The stones come from the quarries of Heinrich Decker in Pfeffelbach and Thallichtenberg the rails on the valley bridge were also removed. The bridge was renovated in 1992. Since then, the “Fritz-Wunderlich-Wanderweg” has led over the building and allows hikers and cyclists a beautiful overview of the upper Ostertal. Source: Text information board

With the commissioning of the final section of the Westrich Railway between Freisen and Kusel in November 1936, Oberkirchen Nord station became the first station in the Weiselberg community. The railway facilities also included facilities for loading and unloading goods. Sections of the former loading road, constructed from local hardstone, have been preserved to this day and can be seen in the museum. With the completion of the Ostertalbahn in May 1938, the municipality gained a second station, Oberkirchen Süd station. This station was larger and more imposing. In addition to the reception building and the goods shed, the railway maintenance depot (Bm) was housed in additional premises. This department was responsible for the maintenance of the Ostertalbahn from Ottweiler to Schwarzerden and the Westrichbahn between Türkismühle and Schwarzerden. Oberkirchen Süd station was therefore also equipped with a trolley shed for the railway maintenance trolley. In the station area, high-rise semaphore signal lights served to secure train and shunting operations. These protective signals were used, for example, to block off a track from other tracks in the station, to order a train to stop, or to lift a travel ban. Source: Text on the information board
