San Vito Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

The first written document that names the church is a privilege of 983 d. C. in which we read that the Bishop of Vicenza Rodolfo makes a gift to the Benedictine friars of S. Felice di Vicenza of a campaign near the church of San Vito di Marostica.
It is understood that the church was part of a “Curtis” with the peasants who worked in land reclamation and agricultural crops under the directives of the Benedictine monks. From "Curtis" it becomes "Vicus" village. In an act of 1442 is mentioned "ORA SAN VITI APUD ECCLESIAM SAN VITI", the district of San Vito near the church of San Vito.
The oriented church has a harmonic facade, an architraved door with a lunette, which ends at the top with the tympanum and a small rose window, Outside on the right side you can see the bell tower and a second door with a lunette that communicates with a room and the sacristy .
The square-barreled bell tower is incorporated between the church and the sacristy. The belfry is illuminated by four arched single-lancet windows oriented to the four cardinal points. The two bells are the ancient ones, one with inscriptions in Gothic characters forged in ovoid form by "Maistro Bagio", the other signed "Martino Piccinino" bears the date 1706 and the inscription: "Made with the alms of the Faithful".
The architectural ensemble is surrounded by tall plants, some evergreen.

Castello Inferiore

Highlight • Castle

The Lower Castle, together with its twin, the Upper Castle, is known by all as the Marostica Castle.
The castle, linked to its double by a wall approximately 1800 meters long, finds its origins in 1312, when Cangrande della Scala wanted its construction.
Today the Castle is a museum open to the public.

Interesting for the piazza, the city walls and the historic "living chess game", which is performed every two years in historical costumes in the piazza.

Our Lady of the Cyclist Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

The little church of Madonna del Ciclista, in the Pianezzola district of the municipality of Marostica, is a favorite destination for those who cycle in the area. Inside the small building there are some local cycling relics, including some rainbow jerseys.
