Basilica of the Visitation of Mary (Mariä Heimsuchung) and Batthyány-Strattmann Tomb, Güssing

In keeping with the architecture of the mendicant order, the basilica is largely unadorned. The entrance to the basilica is on the west side with the coat of arms of the Batthyány family above it. Immediately to the right of the entrance area in the basilica is the tomb of the Blessed Dr. Ladislaus Batthyány-Strattmann. The high altar of the basilica was possibly designed according to a design by Philiberto Lucchese, documented by the sculptor and woodcarver Matthias Kern and the painter Wolfgang Resch, both from Graz, executed in 1649. The shape corresponds to a three-story building. According to the patron saint of the church "Visitation of the Virgin Mary" Marian themes are depicted on the high altar.
