Wiegboldsbur Windmill

Lovingly restored windmills are part of the landscape of Südbrookmerland. The eye-catcher of the village of Wiegboldsbur is a three-storey and fully functional gallery Dutchman from 1812, which is now looked after by the Wiegboldsbur mill association. Old agricultural machinery and equipment, such as harvesting and threshing machines, are used for exhibition purposes and for practical use.

Tea and pastries are available in the cozy tea room. You can buy different types of bread baked in the stone oven. In the outbuilding there is a blacksmith's and carpenter's workshop. From 4 p.m., old handicrafts will also be on display. Then there are also expert tours of the mill and the adjoining local history museum with a photo exhibition.
Visits and guided tours of the mill take place.

The mill was built in 1812 by Dirck Suncken Kruse as a "Pelde and Mahlmühle along with a house" with two grinding and Pelde lanes.[1] At the time of its construction, the building was one storey and about 3.5 m lower than today. The canopy was initially equipped with sail wings and codend and was turned into the wind by hand. In 1851, the miller Frerich Bruns Janshen had the stone substructure and thus the mill itself increased from two to three floors and in 1856 the miller's house was "significantly enlarged and improved" by the operator and a "carriage house" was built.[1] In 1909, the building was converted from a sail to a blind wing (flap wing) and wind rose operation. Around 1925, a power generation system was installed in the connecting wing of the mill to the packing house, which not only supplied the mill but also some neighboring houses with energy. The plant could be operated both with wind and with a diesel engine, which was installed in 1927 and made the mill independent of the wind.
