Tauber Bridge, Tauberrettersheim

Highlight • Bridge

A wooden bridge was built over the Tauber in 1716, but was destroyed by flooding. In 1733 a massive natural stone bridge with six arches was built according to the design by Balthasar Neumann.

Velo Seyfer Zweirad-Center

Highlight • Rest Area

Found this morning that our water bottles are broken. Since we have such special ones that are hung in two screws, they were useless for us today. 34 degrees.
There just so happens to be a bike shop along the route. Bought two new bottle cages and bottles straight away.
The staff helped us out with a few tools, my hexagon was too short. And then our new water bottles were also refilled!!! Great team Zweiradcenter Seyfer!

Wild Boar Forest

Highlight • Forest

There are no dogs allowed! Note information board at the entrance. We wanted to go in and saw several wild boars right at the gate. Then we would understand why no dogs are allowed.

The area of the Tauber was evangelized by the Fulda monastery from the 8th century. The first known documentary mention from 1225 mentions a house next to the cemetery in Tauberrettersheim, which could have been a simple church. In the following four places of worship are mentioned one after the other in documents. The first was burned down by Sweden in the Thirty Years' War in 1631, the second started in 1644 and completed in 1663, the third started in 1753 and completed in 1757.

In 1858 the number of parishioners grew so much that a new, larger church was necessary. Construction began three years later, in 1861. The new, larger church was no longer built in the same place as the previous building, but is at right angles to the old parish church in a north-south direction, but the tower of the old church has remained unchanged. To the east of this tower is the spacious choir with the high altar, which is followed in the same direction by the two-storey sacristy. This sacred building was built by master builder Georg Dionys Konrad from Bieberehren.
