Bad Herrenalb station

Highlight • Rest Area

The railway line opened in 1898. And Bad Herrenalb remains a popular tourist destination. The KVV S-Bahn (commuter train) operates hourly services to the Northern Black Forest.

A historic steam locomotive also runs occasionally. The station itself features many other historic elements besides the station building and the platform roof.

"In keeping with the historic steam train rides on the Albtalbahn, Bad Herrenalb station was given a historic appearance in the late 1970s. In addition to the station hall, built in 1978 and spanning all three tracks, a water crane, a historic mechanical train destination indicator, a bell system, and a semaphore signal were installed. Parts of the station hall originate from the Baden-Baden city station, which was closed in 1977."

Albtal Adventure Trail, section

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Challenging steep climb - sometimes you have to find the path. This is a logging forest aisle - smaller trees and twigs were simply left lying and the forest area should be left to its own devices in the future.

The newly created Albtal adventure track goes extremely steeply up the hill. Ropes support the progress but here you should bring a good sense of balance and tread resistance. The climb is certainly no picnic!

Plotzsägmühle Forest Inn

Highlight • Restaurant

Quaintly sloping Schwarzwaldgasthaus in the Albtal between Bad Herrenalb and Loffenau. The operator is a local unique, who has a lot to talk about and should not miss. The inn is in a great location in the middle of nowhere, so if you are hungry the mountain torments. The food is simple but delicious. The prices are very fair. For example, a coke costs just 2 euros.

Bad Herrenalb monastery ruins

Highlight • Historical Site

The entrance to the Protestant monastery church is reached through the ruins of the former late Romanesque vestibule, built around 1200.
The porch, known as Paradise, was raised in the late Gothic period in 1462.
Paradise served as a meeting place for lay brothers (conversi) and as a burial place for the local nobility.

The monastery tavern, probably founded in 1148, is one of the oldest inns in southern Germany. At the entrance, there's a distinctive sign featuring a dragon figure.

Bad Herrenalb Spa Park

Highlight • Rest Area

A beautiful, large spa park through which the Alb River flows.

The Alb is accessible at many points, which is very popular in the summer.

Numerous benches and weatherproof hammocks invite visitors to linger.

Thanks to the numerous trees, it's usually possible to find a shady spot.

The spring room was built by monastery builders in 1150 and was in use up until the 16th century. In 1781 the well, which worked on the artesian principle, was restored.
