Kobling–Obermühl Bike Ferry

Highlight • Rest Area

After a rock fall on the south bank between Haibach ob der Donau (Kobling district) and Aschach an der Donau (Kaiserau district), the Danube Cycle Path will be closed from June 8, 2021 until further notice.
You can bypass the lock as follows:

In Kobling you can take the Kobling-Obermühl ferry to the north side. From Obermühl you then cycle to Untermühl and here the Kaiserau-Untermühl ferry brings you back to the south bank.

Worthwhile stop on the southern bank of the Danube, directly opposite the mouth of the Kleine Mühl. The village of Obermühl squeezes itself idyllically onto the shore

Beautiful Danube view of Grafenau

Highlight • Viewpoint

In this otherwise densely forested section of the Danube valley, the tree-free north bank with its light green grass around the village of Grafenau stands out in an idyllic way.

The Schlögener Schlinge is a loop of the river in the upper Danube Valley in Upper Austria, about halfway between Passau and Linz (between river kilometer 2186.5 and 2180.5 of the Danube flowing to the east) and the largest forced meander in Europe. The southern, right bank is in the municipality of Haibach ob der Donau and its district Schlögen, which gives the loop its name. In the north, the municipalities of Hofkirchen im Mühlkreis border with the village of Au and in the far east of Niederkappel with the village of Grafenau in the area of the Danube loop.

The Danube bike trail EuroVelo 6 hugs the river and closely follows around the horseshoe bend. An excellent car-free quiet bike trail. An overview of the tight turn can be seen from the viewpoints higher up on the valley sides, but the switchbacks the stream had cut into the rocks are quite obvious from the trail itself.
