Just ten kilometers from the historic center of Turin is this Savoy residence which has become a UNESCO heritage site. Built in the first half of the eighteenth century, designed by the architect Filippo Juvarra, the imposing palace was used by the sovereigns only for very short stays dedicated to hunting activities. In the 19th century it hosted, among others, Napoleon Bonaparte and later the Indian elephant Fritz, given to Carlo Felice of Savoy. Perhaps due to the forced confinement far from natural environments, the animal went mad and began to destroy everything around it, causing damage that is still visible to the wooden furnishings.
