Church of Sant Julià d'Úixols

Highlight • Religious Site

The first references to the domus sancti Iuliani date back to the years 940 and 961, in purchases made by the Levite Guadamir. The first mention of it as a parish dates from 1124. It was linked to the parish of Castellterçol, with which it was ceded to the monastery of L'Estany in 1130.

Due to the depopulation that took place in the 14th century, it ceased to have its own priest and was linked to the parish of Granera, until, shortly before 1550, it returned to that of Castellterçol.

During the 17th and 18th centuries it was the subject of renovation and extension works and was completely transformed, when the current rectangular body was built towards the east, as indicated by the apse of the northern part of the building. The rectory was built in 1667.

During the winter of 1975-1976 the rectory suffered a fire and, shortly afterwards, the roof was rebuilt and cement beams were laid to maintain the structure.

In the past, popular events were held that brought together many of the inhabitants of the region, on the occasion of the prayers for the rain, and the relics of the Holy Martyrs were brought from the town.
