Caldes de Montbui

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Font del León is a centenary monument located in the central square of the town, named after the fountain. It has always been a symbol of identity and mystery, both for the hot springs and for the fact that the great stream of water that comes out of the mouth of a stone lion has never stopped flowing. It comes out with a very abundant and constant flow, and at a temperature of 74 ° C.

According to a 1923 health report, these waters have mineral-medicinal properties, because they are hyperthermal and contain chlorine, sodium, lithium, bromine and iodine, among others. Thanks to their therapeutic properties, they are indicated to fight various diseases, especially to relieve skin, bone and respiratory conditions.

Font del Lleó Square

Highlight • Historical Site

La Font del Lleó is the central point of the small town of Caldes de Montbui. It is a restricted traffic area, and it is difficult to find parking in the entire historic center. The square has around it several points of interest for the visitor. First, the lion fountain, which gives the square its name. It is a source of hot water, which comes out at 74 degrees, and to which they lend all kinds of virtues, they say that it cures arthritis and composes fractures. The fountain comes out of the mouth of a lion. On the other side of the square are the Roman baths, vestiges of the first spa in the city.

And the Santa Susana hospital, which is now the Thermalia complex, a museum about thermal waters. The square has a couple of spas and also restaurants where you can enjoy its beauty quietly sitting on a terrace.

The Pont Románic de Caldes is a work of Caldes de Montbui (Barcelona) protected as a cultural asset of local interest.

The bridge consists of two semicircular arches of different widths, supported by a central pillar and two lateral abutments that link it to the banks of the stream. The largest arch, on the left hand side looking upstream, is the one that saves the passage of water. The arch on the right is smaller and is located on a rocky shelf at a higher level than the level of the torrent bed. Above the central pillar, between the two arches there is an opening crowned with a small semicircular arch that acts as a discharge arch while giving slenderness and reducing the resistance of the bridge to the passage of water in case of large flows.

The oldest documentation of the bridge dates back to the year 1226.

Hermitage of Remei

Highlight • Religious Site

Abundant remains from the Roman period have been found on the site where the current hermitage stands. Everything supposes a continuity in its consecration, first of pagan cult and later Christian. The construction of the chapel was done thanks to the donation of a piece of land for the building made by Joan de Planas Cassanyes Ferrer on July 3, 1548. A donation made by Anna Setmenat i Doms, in 1553 , made it possible to build the hermit's house. [1] In 1577 permission was sought from the bishop to change the old portal. The portal, however, is dated 1548. The first work was directed by the first hermit, Fray Nicolau. [1]

In 1736, the chapel had three altars. The terracotta image that was worshiped there was lost in the 19th century. [1] In 1893 important reforms began in the sanctuary. From that date until 1935, improvements were made. It was set on fire in 1936
