Plaça de les Bruixes Iberian Archaeological Site

Highlight • Historical Site

In 1971, the widening works of the old path of Sant Bartomeu de la Quadra uncovered different archaeological materials and structural remains of two rectangular stone deposits and two silos in the space known as in Plaça de les Bruixes II. In the following two years, the Archeology Group of the Molins de Rei Museum carried out prospecting work that revealed a new circular structure. In 1974, new works contributed numerous ceramic fragments from the Iberian period in a new site called Plaça de les Bruixes I, about 150 meters from the previous one, between the Sant Bartomeu road itself and another that leads to the cemetery.

The archaeologists found that there was a disconnection between the two sites: the Plaça de les Bruixes I was dated between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC and the Plaça de les Bruixes II, between the 2nd and 1st centuries BC, a chronology that corresponds with the transformations of the first period of Roman colonization and the restructuring of the traditional Iberian economic system. This last site was the one that presented the least problems of interpretation and, due to the chronology and the structures that appeared, it was hypothesized that it was a small settlement with an agricultural function dependent on another larger one or some structures belonging to a Roman villa.

The urbanization of Riera Nova in 1998 led to an urgent archaeological intervention in the Plaça de les Bruixes I site, where a pit was detected with large quantities of Iberian ceramic material that allowed it to be linked with some kind of oven in the surrounding area, but without any type of structure related to this function or any kind of habitat being documented. In 2002, restoration work was carried out on the whole complex, which was declared a Cultural Property of Local Interest.

It is born under the hills of Can Pasqual (470 m) and Can Castellví (468 m), with a route of 12 km. It passes through the old town of Vallvidrera (near the church of Santa Maria de Vallvidrera), through Les Planes, La Floresta, La Rierada, below Sant Bartomeu de la Quadra and Molins de Rei, to finally drain into the Llobregat (18 m). The stream maintains a natural environment of riparian forest, with lush vegetation.

Can Planes Mill

Highlight • Structure

In front of the entrance to Can Planes, on the other side of the road, there is a curious cylindrical construction, possibly a mill, with an old laundry room made of crushed stone attached and surrounded by millstones. A few meters to the northeast we find two large ponds fed by a spring.
A few meters away there is a table made of millstone with seats also made of stone where you can stop and have a bite.

Font de la Pujada

Highlight • Natural Monument

The origin and date of construction of this fountain, which has been redone on several occasions, are not known for sure. It has a monolithic pile with semicircular ends, resting on a stone pedestal. The two fountains are located in large ashlars of reddish stone. The upper body, crowned with a millstone, looks more modern.

Some documentary references suggest that this fountain was originally located in the gardens of the Palau dels Requesens, not far from where it is located today.
