11% Descent at Ralswiek

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

During the Störtebeker Festival, a slow bus runs here, slowing down cyclists and cars. Otherwise you can easily reach 50 km/h.

It is important that you switch to the road straight away and do not continue on the supposed “cycle path”. Otherwise you would actually have to get off there because of occasional pedestrians (the sign explicitly asks you to do this). The second corner requires some attention to your own speed.

Störtebeker Festival Ralswiek

Highlight • Monument

Even though the Störtebeker Festival has only been performed annually since 1993, its origins can be traced back to 1959. In that year, the Rügen Festival was launched in Ralswiek as part of a cultural commission from the GDR.
For years, the Störtebeker Festival remained hidden. It was only since 1993 that the legend of the pirate Klaus Störtebeker, who sailed the Baltic Sea with his Vitalienbrüder at the end of the 14th century, has been told every year under its current name. Over the years, the Störtebeker Festival and its performances have developed into the most successful open-air theater in Germany and turned the small village of Ralswiek into a festival venue. On July 19, 2010, the festival welcomed its five millionth visitor. Around 4,600 spectators visit the Ralswiek open-air stage for each performance to experience the adventures of Klaus Störtebeker in a unique way.

Short spur

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Ralswiek is one of those places that you really can't miss when you're on Germany's largest island, Rügen. It is picturesquely located at the southernmost end of the Großer Jasmunder Bodden and offers a charming mix of history, architecture, and culture.
