Fortified Church of Sattenhausen

The church of Sattenhausen formed the center of a church fortification. From a distance the massive round tower (diameter 5.25 meters) is impressive. An inscription stone indicates building work in Anno Domini 1432. The church and churchyard were protected by a double curtain wall. The outer ring wall is still completely preserved, it is partly continued in the foundations of the surrounding houses. The street name "Kirchgraben" indicates that the surrounding ditch has now been filled in.
Attention: a visit to practice religion or out of cultural interest is recommended anyway. The facility is hardly suitable as a place of refuge, as the trench has been filled in, the inner ring is incomplete and the loopholes are also walled up. The system is therefore no longer safe from a fortification point of view!

European Bread Museum
