Bench with a view of wind turbines in Baesweiler

Highlight • Viewpoint

At each station there is a bench and two fruit trees from which you are welcome to snack. The special features of the districts can be read on information boards. Here, at the Baesweiler station, you can get information about renewable energies with a view of the wind turbines and the Carl Alexander Park. Castle & castle park
In 1982, during the first work on a new retirement home, the foundation walls of a large castle complex were uncovered, on the site of which a castle had already stood in the 13th century that belonged to the Lords of Setterich. The remains that were excavated there essentially date from the 16th century. Today only a fragment of the wall and the archway remain, which has been a listed building since 1986. A retirement home and a parish center, which still houses a historic fountain, were built on the remaining area of the castle, which no longer exists. The floor plan of the old facility was roughly modeled. The architecture of the parish center takes up the theme of the moats.
The castle park is adjacent to the castle. From here you can reach the castle park in just 5 minutes by bike. With large meadows and a playground, it invites you to linger and play. Especially the raft pond
provides variety for children in summer and is a popular meeting point for families.

At this station you will get an insight into the history and naming of the residential area "Steinzeitsiedlung"
A settlement from the Stone Age was excavated in 2005 on the residential area "Stone Age Settlement" that can be seen from here. Thereby 20 floor plans of Stone Age houses were excavated, the width of which was between 5.84 m and 6.37 m. One building was completely exposed and had one Length of 33.60 m.
Furthermore, a 140 m long wall, a striking place for the production of stone tools and a well, which is also interpreted as a cistern for surface water, were excavated. The settlement is between 5100 and 5000 BC.
Dated to the early Neolithic, which is also known as the "Bandkeramik". At this time, a good 7000 years ago, agriculture and cattle breeding began in our region. The people who lived here, who were previously hunters and gatherers, changed their way of life and built houses, grew crops, raised animals, made ceramics and settled in. They laid the foundation for the oldest farming culture in Europe.
Due to the history, the city has chosen the street names with reference to the Stone Age.

Puffendorf Station

Highlight • Historical Site

The history of Puffendorf and details about the listed church of St. Laurentius are explained here.
History
The first settlement probably took place in Roman times. This is supported by the location on an elevated site on an old Roman road which, coming from the northwest, led via Geilenkirchen to Aldenhoven.
In addition, a number of fragments of Roman roof tiles and bowls were found. Even hand axes from the Stone Age have been found here. Some of them are now in the Landesmuseum Bonn. The church of St. Laurentius, which was listed as a historical monument in 1991, is particularly worth seeing. The three-aisled, neo-Gothic church was built in 1888 after the previous church had become too dilapidated and too small. The three-story tower, however, dates back to 1777. St. Laurentius was badly damaged in World War II and could only be restored in 1953. The organ loft and the statues of saints are still preserved from the 19th century furnishings.

Here you will find information about the Beeckfließ near the station and what it was used for in the past.
Beeckfliess
Depending on the direction of travel, you have just crossed the Beeckfließ on the circular route or you will cross it shortly. Since the Carl-Alexander colliery went into operation, the Beeckfließ has been used as a drainage ditch through which the pumped-out water was transported away. It flows through the outskirts of Beggendorf, passing through the towns of Floverich, Apweiler, Beeck, Leiffarth and Honsdorf and, after 13.3 km, flows into the Wurm below Honsdorf. Since the mine closed, the Beeckfließ has had no continuous water supply in its upper reaches from the mine site to the confluence with the Gereonsweiler Fließ. Later, most of the banks on the Beeckfließ were fortified and some areas were restored to their natural state. However, the flow is actually much older. Formerly known as "Busch-Sooth", it drained the Baesweiler Erbwald, the large forest area that stretched between Baesweiler, Neuweiler and Boscheln.

At this station there is information about the Loverich Church of St. Willibrord and the listed churchyard.
St. Willibrord
The Lovericher Church is one of the oldest churches in the former Geilenkirchener Land. Around 1250 the first stone church was built in place of the older chapel. At the beginning of the 16th century, the new, simple Gothic hall church with a few art forms was built, which has been rebuilt several times to this day. In 1944 it was completely destroyed in World War II. The present church was built in 1950. It houses wooden figures of the 14 emergency helpers,
which were recovered from the rubble during wartime. Loverich used to be a place of pilgrimage for the 14 emergency helpers. There are some grave crosses in the churchyard
the 17th century to find. They were subsequently set up there. The churchyard of the parish church of St. Willibrord has been a listed building since 1991. There is also an old pump structure in the churchyard that dates from 1860 to 1870. The pump is made in classical and neo-Gothic styles. Around the middle of the 19th century, the previously common draw wells were often replaced by such pump structures. As a reminder of the type of water pumping, this pump, which has also been a listed building since 1991, was installed.

Here you will find information about the Beeckfließ, which is close to the station, and what it was used for in the past.
I like to live here!
Beggendorf successfully took part in the competition "Our village has a future" of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 and was awarded a gold village. With their strong village community, the cross-generational project "Streuobstwiese", a bread oven for the whole village and many other activities, the Beggendorf people achieved 1st place in the northern district and thus qualified for participation in the state competition in 2018. They were also successful in 2018 at the state level and was chosen by the state evaluation commission as a silver village and also awarded special prizes for special commitment in gardening, landscaping and sports field construction. Beggendorf has an exemplary village community with many initiatives.

Today then the tour, which I recently had to cancel because of the failure of the lamp! That's a really good tour! Only with the wind in the fields does the 26 km easily feel like 35-40 km. 🤪
