Former village of Rauhenstein

Highlight • Historical Site

The village of Rauhenstein is or was a good 500 m northwest of the former unrestricted crossing of the Auerbach-Ranna local railway over the Auerbach-Neuhaus state road in the Pegnitz valley. When the city of Nuremberg established and expanded its water protection area, the localities Fischstein and Rauhenstein also had to give way because they were located in this area. From 1970 the 12 individual properties were replaced and then demolished. the ancestral residents were resettled in the course of the following years, the hammer house "castle" fell into disrepair and was demolished in December 1987. Today there is the Hammerherrenhaus ground monument and a display board at the hiking car park.

Antonius Chapel and Fischstein Memorial

Highlight • Religious Site

It's actually called the Fischstein chapel. Fischstein was once a village and Eisenhammer an der Pegnitz, first mentioned in 1326 and dissolved from 1960 to 1991. The small chapel used to be the center of the entire village, but nowadays it stands completely alone. It was renovated a few years ago and is lovingly cared for by former residents of the village and often visited by them and by many walkers. Exactly when the chapel was built is unknown. In any case, the pretty chapel will have stood here for several centuries. weber-rudolf.de/fischstein.htm

The bike path from Ranna to Pegnitz is wonderful. Initially slightly wavy over the corridors, then past an idyllic lake and then as a visual highlight the "Big Hole Stone".

The former wasteland was located in the upper Pegnitztal north of Ranna. The place was located in the designated in 1960 narrower protection zone of the drinking water protection area.
Ancient cultural land had to be abandoned by its inhabitants. The reason for the dissolution of the village was the supply of drinking water to the city of Nuremberg. For a long time the water of the nearby Haselhof sources no longer sufficed. New sources had to be tapped. For this the villages Fischstein, Oberbrand, Unterbrand and Rauhenstein had to be demolished. Between 1960 and 1975, all properties were broken off and the residents resettled.
At Oberbrand a monument, a boulder with the inscription remembrance of Upper and Unterbrand 1450 - 1975 was erected.

Cool Good Friday morning... the birds are chirping, the Pegnitz is babbling... not a soul in sight... I love it 🧘‍♀️😌.

Wild nature awakens in bright colors, the trees bear lichen...

Not a big group, still photos upon photos 🙈... everyone has their own quirk... that's me 🤷‍♀️😊.

Today we headed past Ranna to Fischstein, one of the most popular routes in the area...
The route passes four former villages: Rauhenstein, Ober- and Unterbrand, and of course, Fischstein.

The route is mostly known by the name "Fischstein."
A great little route; we even saw a kingfisher flying 😍

A quick trip to Fischstein, a short walk with the dogs before it starts to rain ☔

Due to a machine breakdown at work, I finished work at noon today and drove to Ranna. Of course not without taking a ride with Mickey. The subsequent stop at the "Grenzzoigl" inn with bratwurst and freshly tapped Zoigl beer was again excellent 🍻👍😋
