Alte Elisabeth Shaft

Highlight • Historical Site

The historic "Alte Elisabeth" mine in Freiberg was one of the most productive silver mines in the well-known Himmelfahrt Fundgrube in the 16th century. Today, the site serves as a training and research mine for the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Ore Mountains Mining Region since 2019. In addition to the authentic surface facilities, the mine particularly fascinates visitors with a fully functional 1848 beam engine and a unique underground prayer room with an organ.

Hammer Bridge (Freiberg)

Highlight • Bridge

The historic Hammerbrücke, which is a designated cultural monument and can only be crossed on foot or by bike, spans the Freiberg Mulde 2 km east of the city center of Freiberg. It was built in 1576 (other sources indicate 1559) as a road bridge on the Chemnitz-Freiberg-Dresden (Frankenstrasse) as a stone pointed arch bridge. The bridge has a clear height of 10 m, a width of 7.30 m and an arch span of 13.80 m. After several repairs and because of the narrow road width, a new road bridge was built in 1928 200 m further upstream as a successor construction today's federal highway 173 leads. In the mid-1990s, another restoration took place under cultural and historical aspects. Source: Wikipedia

We hopped on our bikes and headed to the swimming spot.
My two children had already driven ahead in the car. When we arrived, Bonzo was already in the water.

A lovely afternoon comes to an end.
