Weiertor, Zülpich

Highlight • Monument

The Weiertor is another entrance to Zülpich. It is only a proverbial stone's throw from the Bachtor.

Zülpich Castle

Highlight • Castle

In 1285 the Archbishop Friedrich III. from Saarwerden demolish a castle that the Jülich counts had illegally built and instead build the Zülpicher castle with its mighty round towers.
The present castle dates from the 14./15. Century and is integrated into the city wall Zülpichs. Also well preserved are the four city gates: Münstertor, Bachtor, Kölntor, Weiertor.
They are part of the largely restored Wall Ring, which surrounds the historic center of Zülpich.

"The Kurkölnische castle in Zülpich was built at the end of the 14th century as a symbol of sovereignty and outpost of the Cologne archbishops against the county Jülich.

The 30-meter-high observation tower of the Landesburg can be climbed again in 2014 since the State Garden Show NRW Zülpich (LAGA). In the courtyard and on the ground floor is the "Geschichtswerkstatt Zülpich". "Source: nordeifel-tourismus.de/sehenswertes-kultur/burgen-kloester-kirchen-und-kapellen/landesburg-zuelpich

Gasthauskapelle Zülpich

Highlight • Religious Site

Very nice little chapel belonging to the parish of St. Peter.
The inn chapel was built in 1454 from red sandstone. It was first mentioned here in 1350 - as the "Zülpicher Hospital for the poor, crippled and blind". She is dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity, Our Lady, St. George, St. Agatha, St. Magdalene and St. Dedicated to Barbara.
The furnishings include a carved altar with a statue of Mary, which according to the inscription was erected in 1425. The equipment also includes a small Pieta from the 15th century, a Matthias figure and stone reliefs of St. Barbara and St. Anthony.
In 1882 the former inn was bought back by the church and used after World War II as a place of worship for the small community.
The inn chapel is open to visitors daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
